"Zine Bazaar 2019 – Bombay Edition"
Client: Gaysi
Agency: Oak, Freelance
Role: Director, Editor

The Zine Bazaar 2019 – Bombay Edition was a two-day celebration of art, design, and indie publishing, drawing over 900 guests to honor self-expression and creativity. Organized by Gaysi Zine Bazaar in collaboration with G5A Foundation, Tinder India, and Bombay Duck Brewing, the event provided a platform for zinesters, artists, and designers to showcase their work and connect with a larger creative community.
Beyond documenting the event’s energy, I took a personal and intimate approach by capturing portraits of each artist alongside their favorite zines—a tribute to their individuality and creative voice. While the artists believed they were being photographed, I kept the film rolling, preserving unscripted moments of vulnerability and pride. These candid shots were seamlessly woven into the final video, creating a raw and authentic narrative that celebrated both the artwork and the artists behind it.
The video blends event highlights, panel discussions, workshops, and installations, while the artist portraits bring a personal dimension, emphasizing the faces, stories, and passions behind the work. It captures the spirit of indie publishing and zine culture, shining a light on community, creativity, and storytelling within Mumbai’s thriving art scene.
TLDR:
The 2019 Zine Bazaar explored the theme of Desi Fantasy—its pleasant dreams and darker realities—through talks, workshops, activities, and exhibits from 50+ creators. My approach blended the event’s vibrant conversations and visual energy with personal artist portraits, capturing candid moments that reflected their unique stories and work.

Two days of Zine Bazaar saw over 900 guests.
